Fully illustrated catalogue (28.5 x 24 cm) with 128 pages, 89 colour images and accompanying text for all 48 featured artists. An introduction by David Messum and catalogue entries by Dr Jane Hamilton, Messum’s researcher and archivist.
“
This lavishly illustrated catalogue features over 80 paintings by artists based in Newlyn and St Ives at the turn of the century, and of others working in London at the same time. Pictures by artists such as Dame Laura Knight, Wilfrid de Glehn, Henry Herbert La Thangue and Harold Harvey offer insight on such topics as contemporary life, the changing quality of light, and painting outdoors. The collection covers the full gamut of subject matter from portraiture to landscapes and seascapes, as well as still life and subject paintings. Dr Jane Hamilton’s informative catalogue entries throw new light on this often-neglected area of British art, making ‘Paintings at the Studio’ essential reading for all those with an interest in the period.”
